New Tool to Strengthen Cyber Security in the Maritime Cluster
To mark Cyber Security Awareness Month this October, GCE Blue Maritime Cluster, in partnership with DNV and Norsk Katapult Digital, is launching a new Cyber Security Maturity Assessment Tool explicitly designed for maritime companies.
In connection with Cyber Security Awareness Month this October, GCE Blue Maritime Cluster, in collaboration with DNV and Norsk Katapult Digital, is launching a new version of the Cyber Security Maturity Assessment Tool –tailored for maritime companies. The tool is a self-assessment that companies can use to check their current cyber security posture. Although many companies uses external companies as their IT vendor, they are not relieved from the responsibilities they have, so all companies should do an assessment to better understand where their strengths and weaknesses are in terms of cyber security.
Cyber security is not only an IT issue, but a question of overall business resilience. This tool makes it easier for maritime players to get an overview and take the first concrete steps
Lasse Lundstad, Cyber Security Expert at DNV
The Cyber Maturity Assessment Tool is hosted by DnV but they have no insight unless you chose to store the results on the server. You can print out the assessment report and bring it with you to any advisors or suppliers if the company wishes to follow up further.
Why Control Matters
Maritime operations are becoming increasingly digitalized – which also increases exposure to risk. A recent Allianz survey shows that cyberattacks are now among the top three global threats to shipping. Several shipping companies have already experienced attacks that caused downtime and significant financial losses.
We see that the threat landscape is changing rapidly. That is why it’s crucial that our companies not only react when something happens, but work systematically and proactively
Knut Tore Aurdal, Head of Projects at GCE Blue Maritime Cluster
Two Strategic Axes in Cyber Security
GCE Blue Maritime Cluster continues its work through the Maritime Cyber Security Forum, focusing on two main axes:
Competitiveness – Staying ahead of regulations like IACS E26/E27 and other upcoming requirements is not just about compliance but also provides a competitive edge for the cluster.
Awareness – Companies need current knowledge of the threat landscape and an understanding of the necessary measures to secure their operations.

More tools on the way
The new maturity assessment is only the beginning. Throughout this autumn and winter, more resources and tools will be made available to cluster companies under the theme of security and preparedness.
– “Our goal is to provide the industry with tools that enable them to navigate more safely in an increasingly uncertain landscape,” Aurdal concludes.
