Maritime Cyber Security: Adapting to the new IACS regulations

Workshop Are you and your company ready for the new IACS regulations for Cyber Security entering into force in January 2024? As these regulations affects most of the companies in the cluster, GCE Blue Maritime Cluster will, with the support of DNV, arrange a series of workshops on the subject. The goal is to systematically assist you and your company with the necessary adoptions needed to be in compliance with the new regulations.

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) published two new Unified Requirements (URs) on cyber security and resilience in 2022. These will become mandatory for classed ships and offshore installations contracted for construction on or after January 1st 2024. More than half of our members are directly impacted by the new regulations. Hence, our plan and goal for this year is to make sure you are all prepared and able to take the necessary measures in advance.

UR E26 (Cyber resilience of ships) and UR E27 (Cyber resilience of on-board systems and equipment) are based on international standards, such as the NIST cyber security framework and the IEC 62443 series of standards that set best practices for cyber security.

Recognising the importance of being compliant with these requirements by the end of this year, the BMC Forum for Cyber Security has developed a programme of workshops to deliver the following objectives:
• To bring together expertise and information to share with members
• To help firms assess where they are in the process and what they have left to do to become compliant
• To maximise collaboration and sharing of solutions and best practice (adhering to any legal, competition or confidentiality constraints)

The first three workshops have been planned as follows:

Workshop 1: Introduction – 28 March 09.00-11.30 + lunch

- Clarifying the regulatory landscape
- Scope and applicability of the requirements
- Panel discussion of the key impacts and challenges for different firms (shipyards, integrators, suppliers and DNV)
- Gap analysis exercise

Workshop 2: E27 for suppliers – 18 April 09.00-13.00 + lunch

- Feedback on themes from gap analysis on E27
- Walk through the requirements in E27
- Provide examples of what will satisfy the requirements
- Take questions on the requirements

Workshop 3: Maritime Cyber Security: Adapting to the new IACS regulations

- Feedback on themes from gap analysis on E26
- Walk through the requirements in E26
- Provide examples of what will satisfy the requirements
- Take questions on the requirements

Management are encouraged to attend the first workshop. Further workshops will be planned for the rest of 2023, based on the needs of members, informed by the results of the gap analysis.

Further information on the requirements can be found on the IACS website, including the full documentation for the two requirements: https://iacs.org.uk/news/iacs-...

We look forward to working together on this critical topic.

The workshop will be held in English.
