DIGIMARBS

The project Digimarbs "Intelligent Mobile Batteries for Electric Propulsion of Small and Medium-Sized Boats" aims to develop a battery swapping concept to address the challenges of electrifying maritime transportation, particularly in the context of the "Green Quay" initiative for zero-emission tourism in Geiranger beyond 2026. It proposes the use of standardized and mass-produced batteries and charging solutions from the automotive industry to benefit from lower costs and scalability.

The project explores existing battery swap systems and seeks to adapt and innovate for maritime applications, focusing on small and medium-sized boats. A virtual prototype will be developed to evaluate the concept further, with research conducted on the feasibility of using electric car batteries and employing electric car charging stations for maritime use. The initiative promises to open up a vast market by retrofitting existing boats and offering a flexible, scalable solution that can be rapidly deployed, contributing to sustainable maritime mobility and supporting green corridors like the Geirangerfjord.
